5 Healthy Hacks to Living an Organic Lifestyle

Posted by on

Turning to an organic lifestyle can be daunting. There are so many aspects of life which are made easier by chemicals. But for the ultimate healthy lifestyle, we believe that organic is the way to go. We've put together a list of lifestyle hacks to make the transition smoother!
Replace hand-wash and soap
A small tweak to begin, but a mighty one. Organic soap tends to be a lot gentler on the skin so is great for anyone, especially children. It usually contains essential oil which naturally moisturizes the skin. It doesn't strip your hands of its natural chemicals, but instead cleanses them of bacteria and gives your skin vitamins and minerals.

When selecting an organic soap, have a look at the ingredients and know what benefits they might have. We'd also recommend looking out for certified organic products to make sure they are as good for your skin as possible!

Swap your night cream for organic coconut oil
Non-organic face cream can be made with some nasty toxic substances. Examples include parabens, which can affect your hormones, and phthalates which have been linked with several diseases. Organic coconut oil, on the other hand, has a number of properties that are great for your skin. Aside from its powerful moisturizing qualities, coconut oil contains lots of antioxidants which prevents aging. It also has antibacterial properties which can help heal blemishes and wounds. Coconut oil also lasts on your skin for a long time compared to other oil, which makes it great for before bed. It will keep your skin hydrated for longer while you sleep!

And if you want something that's a great booster for your body why not try our organic body oil, it's packed with avocado oil, coconut oil and sweet almond oil many others, to make sure that skin is left feeling soft, supple and hydrated.

Throw out artificial fragrance
Artificial fragrances are one of the worst toxin emitters. They contain toxic fumes which not only kill odour, but good bacteria within our homes… the bad part? When we inhale these fumes, they compromise the good bacteria in us, too. Examples of toxic substances in fragrances include parabens, phthalates and triclosan which have a long list of negative side effects.
Try some essential oils as an alternative to synthetic fragrances. We'd recommend diffusing lavender, lemon and orange into your home for an organic air freshener.
Clean up your cosmetics
Unfortunately, make up is a major culprit in harmful skin care products. Most of them contain parabens, triclosan and phthalates, which are associated with several diseases and skin conditions. Your face absorbs everything and is sensitive skin compared to the rest of your body. This means it is especially important to use products which are kind to your skin and don't contain anything harmful. To start slow, just replace the products as needed rather than throw them all out and start from scratch! Take time to learn which products work for you and your skin - your skin will thank you later.
N.B.

Be careful when buying make up products - even when a brand claims to contain organic or natural ingredients, it can still have nasty chemicals in it as well. Always read the ingredients list and check for a certified organic label.

Simplify your skin routine
Everyone has a different skin routine, but often simple is safest. This means anything from the type of product you use, to the quantity of products you use. Often when we use too many artificial products on our skin, it can become overwhelmed and do more damage than good. Of course, everyone has different skin and what works will change dramatically between different people, but have you ever thought to cut down on your product use? Chances are if you're using good quality, organic products, you won't need as many. You might also find that going organic means that products work better together. Finding what's best the natural way will be the best remedy for any skin concerns you have.

Try starting with an organic cleanser, moisturizer and night cream (or coconut oil!) and increase your product use if needed. Remember to take time - the first product you try might not be the best one for your skin!
