Foods to Spice up your Love Life

Posted by on

With Valentine’s day well and truly over, you might be looking for that extra something special to spice up your love life. What better way to get the love flowing than some healthy, tasty sustenance! A healthy sex drive can be influenced by your physical and mental health, so thinking about your diet would be a good place to start. For meals on date nights or sumptuous snack ideas, here are some foods that could help you get your groove going with your loved one.

(Please be aware this post is not 100% Vegan friendly as we include fish!)

Oysters

Famed lover, Casanova, ate 50 oysters a day for sexual stamina. As a result, it’s probably the most well-known aphrodisiac. Shellfish, including oysters, clams and scallops, raise testosterone and oestrogen levels, increasing sexual desire. They are also a great source of zinc which aids blood flow to sexual organs! Shellfish such as lobster or crab also contain lots of zinc.

Salmon

The omega-3 fatty acids could be the love potion you’ve been waiting for. Omega-3s help prevent plaque from building in your arteries, improving blood flow throughout your body, including sex organs. Omega-3s are in any pink, fleshy fish, like tuna and halibut, so there’s many options to choose from for a delicious date night in.

Nuts and seeds

Many nuts and seeds also have omega-3 fatty acids in, but they have the added benefit of zinc (like oysters!). Cashews and almonds have a particularly high zinc contents and also contain L-arginine for increased blood flow. Other nuts and seeds high in omega-3s and zinc are walnuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pecans, hazelnuts and peanuts!

Garlic

Ok, so it might not be your first go-to date food, but the benefits might outweigh questionable breath. Garlic has natural anticoagulant properties which help prevent high blood pressure, high cholesterol and heart disease, but it also increases blood flow to the nether regions! This aids arousal, ready for an amorous evening!

Red wine

On the other end of the spectrum to garlic, red wine is one of the most obvious date night additions. Research shows it may get women in the mood. It contains quercetin, which can have a positive impact on setting the atmosphere. Interestingly, researchers found that drinking more than two glasses of red wine daily, or having other kinds of alcoholic drinks, doesn’t have the same affect.

Dark chocolate

Another sumptuous evening treat: dark chocolate! It not only has antioxidant properties to improve blood flow, but it also contains phenylethylamine. This is the same compound that releases mood-altering endorphins during sex. It stimulates romantic emotions and could also act as an aphrodisiac!
